After using our vaporizer, the first thing we probably do is throw away the leftover marijuana. But did you know that these "leftovers" can be reused?
After vaping our herbs, active cannabinoids still remain. About 20 to 30% of the THC remains in these herbs, which still have a psychoactive and relaxing effect on us when we consume them again. In already vaped herbs, we mainly find CBD because it is consumed at a higher temperature compared to THC. However, terpenes disappear completely, as they begin to decompose at 40ºC.
The cannabis left after our session is called AVB (Already Vaped Buds) in English, and its Spanish translation could be CYV (Cannabis Ya Vaporizado).
What to do with already vaped herbs?
Before reusing vaped marijuana, there are a few factors to consider.
First of all, to be able to reuse marijuana, it must have been vaped at a temperature between 150 and 195ºC, which is the ideal temperature to maintain the maximum amount of cannabinoids in the herbs. If we vape at a higher temperature, almost all the cannabinoids present in the plant will be lost, making it not very useful to reuse the consumed marijuana.
On the other hand, you will have to take into account that the potency of the herbs will depend on factors such as: the temperature at which you vape (the higher the temperature, the less potent it will be because more THC will have been consumed), what method your vaporizer uses to heat the herbs, the way you inhale, whether you take longer or shorter drags (the longer the drag, the less psychoactive effect remains). This will help you know how much already vaped cannabis to use or if it's worth reusing it at all.
Another thing that will help you evaluate whether to reuse cannabis or not is its color; because the darker the cannabis, the less potent its effect will be. That is, if what is left is black and has a "crispy" texture, it is not worth saving because it will have no effect on us when we consume it.
So, how can I reuse this cannabis?
01. Re-vaporize them

Although it is not the best method, you can re-vaporize cannabis if it is not too used up. However, we do not recommend it, mainly due to its unpleasant taste.
However, if vaping is what you like the most, there is a solution to reduce that taste. In English it is called “water curing” and it also helps you store it to use the herbs at another time. Water curing is infusing the cannabis in water, changing it daily for 5 to 8 days. After that period, you will have the cannabis ready to reuse as you wish, with a less strong taste and smell.
02. For cooking

This is one of the most common ways to make the most of already vaped cannabis. One of the reasons is that it is much easier to make marijuana butter or oils after the cannabis has been vaped. This is because by being heated, it has already been decarboxylated, which is the necessary process for the cannabinoids to activate and for the cannabis to have psychoactive and relaxing effects if we want to make edibles from the plant.
To make butter, we recommend using one that has a lot of fat, just as for making oil; the best for infusing is coconut oil because it contains 92% saturated fats. This will help your body metabolize the cannabis better and prevent negative effects on us.
03. To make cannabis capsules

If you've made a lot of oil and want to try other ways to consume already vaped cannabis, you can buy empty gel capsules and fill them with that oil to take as your daily marijuana dose.
Cannabis capsules can be made in two ways: grinding the herbs until they are powder and putting them into the gel capsules, or (as we said before) making oil and putting them in that way more easily.
As a tip, it's advised to eat something before taking these capsules; because if you have an empty stomach, you might get a stomach ache after taking them.
04. Mix it directly with food or drink

Another way to consume already vaped cannabis is by mixing it directly with food or drinks. In the case of drinks, it can be infused or mixed directly with juices or smoothies. And in the case of food, having a crunchy texture, it is usually ground and sprinkled on top of the food.
Since its flavor is not entirely pleasant, we advise you to use it with strong-flavored foods such as: chocolate spreads, jams, and fruit smoothies.
Another thing you have to take into account before eating food with cannabis is that it can upset your stomach. If it does, we advise you to eat something with plenty of fat, drink water, and lie down somewhere relaxed. The "high" is usually stronger than when it is vaped, so relax.
05. To make tinctures

Making tinctures is another of the most used methods for being an easy way to dose and have a strong effect that takes less time to appear than edibles.
You just need to infuse the cannabis in alcohol and after the alcohol has evaporated from the mixture, you will have a very potent marijuana tincture to use as sublingual oil or mix with food or drinks.
To make creams
By infusing cannabis with oils like coconut oil, in addition to making cannabis oils for food use or filling capsules, you can also make creams for pain in a specific area of the body or to treat skin problems.
This type of product is quite expensive, hard to get, and sometimes illegal because it contains THC. Therefore, being able to make your own creams at home saves you a lot of trouble. And what's more, it's just as easy as making cannabis oil.
How to cook already vaped cannabis?
As we said before, with already vaped cannabis we can make oils, butter or tinctures to take directly and cook with them.
The amount of already vaped herbs you will need for cooking will depend on the color of the herb: if it has a greenish color, you will need 20 grams, while if it is browner you will need to put between 40 and 60 grams.
The rest will depend on the recipe you choose. On the internet you can find everything: from classic brownies to more "modern" recipes like pesto.
06. How much to take?

Knowing how much you need to consume is not something that is established. Since there are so many factors to consider, there is no set dose to take that will give us an effect without having a bad time. Therefore, you will have to experiment a bit with the doses, but don't worry, we'll give you some tips first.
If you decide to mix already vaped cannabis with food or drinks, we recommend weighing the already vaped herb you are going to take beforehand. Start with about 0.5 grams, and don't eat or smoke anything before doing the first test.
It will take about 2 hours to take effect and can last up to 6 hours or more. If you don't feel anything, or the effect is too mild, try another day with 1 gram. After several attempts, you will know the exact amount you need to take to feel the effects, understanding your tolerance and the potency of these herbs.
On the other hand, if you decide to re-vaporize or smoke it, you will probably have to consume more than you are used to, as the effect is less.
